I Resolve

It's that time of yearo where we make promises to ourselves to be better people. We make grand resolutions and stick to them as though we've made a blood oath on the life of the most important person in our lives.

What you normally barely keep your resolutions a month and have decided they are pretty much a waste of time? That's okay. I'm the same way, so the question is are new years resolutions a waste of time? My answer is no, and I hope this blog will encourage you to make some. The first thing to be determined is "WHY' Why make a new years resolution? The best answer is to better yourself. But I don't even keep it. After a month I start slipping into my old habits. By two months, I've failed. Yeah, so, that's like two months that you improved yourself that never would have happened. Plus, who knows? Maybe this is the year you breakthrough. I think it's silly to make new years resolutions. I can change anytime, darn it. Yeah, that's true. You can vow to improve in June, but it's January or almost. Let's make a new years resolution. Most people yearn to be habits of ritual and tradition. New years represents a time of new beginnings. Make it a new start for you too. Yay! We're all inspired and ready to conquer the world, but take a seat and stop the fist pumping for a moment.

I'd like to offer a couple tips for keeping your resolutions. • make reasonable ones. You probably won't go from couch potato to health nut overnight, so why not cut out late night snacks and start a small exercise schedule • if you slip up a little, just keep going. If you miss a day or relapse a day, you can always start over the next day. Oh and don't try to make up for missed days. That's it friends, my new years resolutions motivational blog.

The return of my blogs.

Okay, My life is back to normal (sort of) I am starting what will be a new year's resolution to blog more, early. I am going to finish my Christmas shopping today. I am so looking forward to this holiday season being over. That is one of the weird things about this time of year. I love it and look forward to it. I think it is the only holiday season that really brings out the best in people. What other holiday stresses giving and helping out other so much? I think that is a wonderful thing, but as much as I look forward to Christmas and its selfless and giving nature, I am always happy to see it go.
It seems like this year more and more people have wished me a Merry Christmas. I often wonder why Christmas is the only holiday not fronted with happy. I am going to go now, but I will be posting much longer blogs from now on as I try to dig deeper into my psyche. A Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all.

next blog: I discuss and promote New Year's Resolutions

Back to the real blogs

It's the start of a new week, and I plan to do a lot of commenting on it in my blog.
My home state had some earthquakes over the weekend (Oklahoma) it's a place where earthquakes are very rare. I hope everyone is okay.
Michael Jackson's doctor was found guilty of manslaughter. I think justice has been done from what I've heard.
Heavy D died yesterday. He is an old school rapper. I would know him if I seen a picture, but I can't think of any songs he rapped. One of the ladies accusing. Herman Caine of sexual harassment wants to hold a joint press conference with the other ladies. I hope this is not to ruin a man's life because he has gained some fame or his political views. I loves me some hot chai tea. It's horrible what's happened at Penn State, and Why aren't people focusing on what's important.

Not a real blog

I didn't really keep up with the comings and goings of the blog this week, so enjoy the pictures. The randomness you've grown to love will be back next week

Sunday, October 23, 2011

Oh yay another week another blog. I wish I could make my blog more eye appealing. Well, I could. I wish I would take the time.
Are you ever out at a restaurant and here people in a loud private conversation? I always try not to listen but I feel guilty for being able to hear.
If you haven't watched the movie Tron Legacy, you can do worse, though not by much. I don't think there is any foul language or blood. I know there is nothing sexual or intimate. The story is simple, and the visuals are bright, so it seems like a good movie for young boys.

I've been watching and seem to be going through a little thing where I am interested in the history of the American west including The Indian Wars. Okay, I'm trying to get some writing done in the morning, so I'm going to make a blog comment early to get my mind going. I'm also going to tweet something. I like watching 'Mike and Mike in the morning' in the morning, a sports talk show. You should always try to talk to others with respect and let them at least finish a thought before you start. I'm looking for something sorta Halloweeny to use as wallpaper on my work computer Why yes I would love to take a nap
Self reliance or baby sitted by the government? Whoever stamps there name on my paycheck forgot to stamp it damn them. I kinda want/need the money I've earned. I keep forgetting to research what happened in history this week. Pears are one of my favorite fruits. I will now rank pears this list does not include the Asian pear because it seems like such a different type of fruit 3. Bartlett 2. D'angou. (Sp?) The number one pear I've tasted is the BOSC PEAR Okay this is weird blogger showed it had published the same blogs multiple times, but when I tried to delete some of the repeats all the posts were deleted. I would really like a tablet. I guess the I pad would be nice, but I would be happier with something cheaper. I wonder how the kindle fire stacks up. I will now publish. Next week I will feature Halloween related stuff.

Weekly Blog #2

So I attended the first of a series of writer work shops yesterday. It was interesting. We listened to a playwright speak, and we did an exercise where we listened to various genres of music to see what characters it would inspire.

I did some revising today. I hope it made the piece better. Watching some football now.

The movie Made in Dagenham was really good. It's based on a true story concerning woman's rights, and Sally Hawkins does an excellent job.

Daniel Tosh is hilarious. I love his irreverent comedy.

The unabomber manifesto was published on this date. (9/19)

The anime blue exorcist is not bad, but give it about three episodes. It's one of those things that has to grow on someone.

I think I want to try absurdist fiction. Seems like it would be a fun challenge

Flat tax

Gays and lesbians can serve openly in the military now. I really think after a short time this will seem perfectly normal, but I'm sure there will be a scandal or two. Not because gay people can't control themselves, there will just be more temptation and opportunity, so I think something will happen. I just hope people don't overreact.
My break at work is right while dancing with the stars is on. I think it would be fun to learn to dance like that.
My Napster account is well worth it. $10 a month for all the music I can handle, and there is a wide selection. I've just been listening to some of the inspirational Christian music I was raised on.
I finished an audio book version of The Hunger Games today. I enjoyed reading it better, but it was still highly entertaining.
Always make sure you know the submission guidelines for the publication you're submitting. I can't believe, I overlooked a word count. This is the E mail I got

Dear Chris,

Thank you for submitting your story to SFC. I have reviewed your story and found it well written. I am sorry to say though that we cannot publish it. If you check our submissions guidelines on our site, you will see that the maximum word limit for stories that we accept is 1,200 words. Please make sure to review all of our guidelines before submitting stories in the future. This will save time for yourself and us.

I guess it is no guarantee I would have been published here, but I threw out any chance at all by not knowing and following the guidelines.

On this date (9/22) in 1862, Abraham Lincoln inacted the emancipation proclamation.
A friend asked me why main or at least minor characters are sometimes killed in a story. If you have any answers to this question, why not answer it.

Okay I think that is it for this week. (I have decided to make Friday my blog publishing day.

Weekly Blog

The book How to Survive in al Science Fiction Universe is a smart entertaining science fiction novel with heart. There are a few times where it rambles though in my opinion, but overall, I heartily recommend the book.

For my writing in working on 3 things again this week. A short story, a little thing for a contest, and the next chapter in my dragon story. I've got 6 pieces out in submission that I'm waiting for a response.

I was published in father stars ezine today. They publish rough flash fiction. I think they love originality and hate Polish. (9\15)

I finished the graphic novel version of silverfin today. Wow! That was bad. Let's see most advances in the plot were via dumb luck, and the plot was a pretty rehashed on

I know money talks for any politician, but has anyone ever been so obviously for sale as our current president (in the USA)

Canterbury Tales

I've recently just finished listening to the Canterbury Tales on audio book. It is a book of short stories written at the end of the 14th century.
The jist of the book is several pilgrims on their way to Canterbury decide to have a story telling contest.
The stories were originally written in the English at the time, and from what I understand, that was quite the controversy at the time. They were also told out of order regarding the characters' "rank." At their time the stories and the characters were ironic and critical commentary on English society especially the church.
To be honest, I could see that sometimes, and sometimes I could not. I thought most of the stories at least a little humorous and entertaining. There were a few that I chuckled at for probably unintentional reasons. It's just society has changed a bit over the last 600 years.
I'd suggest at least giving the Canterbury Tales a look for their historical importance. Apparently they were a big game changer at their time.

Im ready for some football

Tonight is the official opening of the NFL season. I'm pretty excited. I guess. I don't enjoy watching the gridiron battles as much as I used to. I used to love following, discussing, and arguing everything sports when I was growing up. It was so silly how serious me and some of my friends took some of our debates. Now, I live in the "real world", and it is hard to get too excited about a game. Oh well maybe Ill at least get to see a lot of bone jarring hits this season :)

Educational and interesting

I've recently discovered a history podcast that I really enjoy. it's history according to Bob. A history professor named Bob shares short but interesting and informative tidbits of history. If you enjoy learning about the past, I strongly recommended.

What a wonderful vacation

So I just finished a 5 day weekend, and I had a wonderful time. I didn't do a whole lot, but I did eat out a few times made a few neccesary purchases and got a tiny bit of writing done. Most important I was able to get some much needed rest. I am making it my personal goal to post a new blog everyday till the end of the year.

More on the Al Gore people that disagree with me are racist rant

Okay so in my last blog I mentioned about Al Gore comparing the climate change debate to racism. To me to compare the two is an insult and a slap in the face to all those who fought so hard in the civil rights movement.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

You didn't earn it

The other day, I saw an interview where Al Gore was asked about people that disagree with his stance on man made climate change. He answered by comparing people that disagree to racist, and painted a comparison to the civil rights movement of the 60s. He encouraged people to politely tell those who disagree that they will not listen just like they did with racist. This blog to be continued in later blogs

What im writing

I haven't posted one of these in awhile, so here it goes. The first thing is my suspense thriller. I'm almost finished with part two. Okay I got aways to go suspense is very hard to pace that along with the rest of the things I need in the story are making this one a slow process. The second story is my dragon story. Trying to write a scene which developes the relationship between the romantic leads just a Tad. The third story is a short story that clashes Christmas and Halloween. Well that's all for this week.

SO I am sitting here thinking

I have a rare Friday off, and I am sitting here thinking. Why is the world helpin Lybia and ignoring Siereia. I don't even know if I spelled that right, and I don't care. I am wondering if there has been two worse presidents right in a row than Bush jr and Obama in American history. I bet if you looked at the numbers they would be at the bottom. I know the president doesn't control everything but both of them had a lot of time getting basically whatever they wanted and for both things just got worse. Sigh, I don't know. I wrote some flash fiction today. Here it is.

Tom watched the man take another step backwards right with the flow of the line. The man was facing the wrong way looking at Tom, who stood behind him in line, but he moved easily with the crowd. This strange fellow had put his clothes on backwards, so Tom called him Backward Guy. It wasn't the most creative nickname, but Backward Guy had Tom feeling quite awkward. He stared straight at Tom, well more like through him.

Tom looked left and right, to the sky, and at every pretty girl that walked by, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not escape Backward Guy's unblinking gaze or his wide toothless smile.

Backward Guy and Tom soon progressed their way to the front of the line and their turn on the roller coaster. Tom took his seat, and Backward Guy sat right next to him, backwards. This reversed the roles of the two men. Tom stared at Backwards Guy, who was sitting bent at his back and kneecap. This seized Tom's attention so much that he continued to gawk through the ride.

When the coaster's cars came to a stop, Backward Guy exited the ride, and Tom followed.

The two made their way through a crowd. Tom watched Backward Guy navigate his way through a sea of people to one of the amusement park's many bathrooms. Though he knew it was creepy, Tom couldn't help himself, and he pursued after the Backward Guy into the washroom. Afraid of being noticed, Tom kept his distance and just caught sight of the stall Backward Guy entered, but as luck would have it, he was able to occupy the next one to it.

Tom sat on the toilet and debated what he should do next. The thought was disgusting, but he had to know which way the Backward Guy was sitting while doing his business. Tom stood on the seat and stretched towards the next stall.

"Hello dear."

Tom quickly crouched down. Backward Guy was talking to someone.

"My trip was fine, love."

Tom rose again. He realized Backward Guy was on the phone.

"Yes, I remembered. I told you I would."

Tom peered over the stall wall to see the way Backward Guy sat, but he was standing with no visible phone, head set, or ear piece.

"I'm having a great time, but I did do one pretty embarrassing thing though."

As Backward Guy continued to talk, he grabbed a piece of skin on the middle of his forehead and pulled down. The skin split and crumpled to both sides like a pile of clothes, and a little silver alien, who had on a head set and two antennas, stepped out from the skin. Tom just stared unable to speak or move.

"I put my human suit on backwards," the alien said.

He spun the pile of skin around, stepped in the middle of it, and zipped it back up.

"No, I don't think anyone noticed."

The Backward Guy walked out of the bathroom, forward with Tim staring his mouth agape.

I hope you enjoyed that. :) I am feeling like eating Mexican tonight. (food not people) Okay that is all

two posts in one day

Yeah, I know. Please don't celebrate too much. I recently got the first almost finished page back from a person who is drawing a graphic short story I wrote. It wasn't bad, but I did have to strongly suggest he redraw something. Sometimes I wish I was a bit more assertive or extremely rich.

Historical fiction

I have been thinking really hard about starting a historical fiction novel lately. I want to write a story that follows a family that lives through the dust bowl, but I am a little nervous that I will not be able to do the era justice. I want to make sure my characters talk and act like people of the era and region did. I want to make sure my own thoughts and feelings don't get in they way. I know it is possible. I guess I just have to start. This would be so much easier if somebody would let me borrow their time machine.

Weathercraft

I just looked at a wordless graphic novel called Weathercraft, and I must say it is pretty brilliant. It takes place in a graphic novel and follows the adventures of a few creature things. My only complaint would be sometimes the story seemed to get repetitive.

shutup

I wonder if we can just shut up about how horrible things are for one day. We all get it jobs are hard to get and the stock market is going down. I am sure the people without a job already know they don't have a job.

Worst book this year (so far)

Okay, I only made it to page 100, but I Am Number Four is the worst book I've read this year. The idea is okay, A group of aliens are sent to Earth to hide till they grow and develope powers. There's a bit more to the story, but I'm not going to waste time with that. I am sure everybody wants to know what makes the story suck. The first thing is horrible character development. The main guy (4) is super powered and trying to hide, so when he moves to a new town and the school bully/jock messes with him, he picks a fight. Not to mention the hottest girl in school is all over him from the first time she sees him.
The thing that really made the story stink was 4's big fight move. He kneed a guy in the balls. I've read a lot of superhero\superpowered person type stories. This was easily the worst one

Just a writer. Not a writer

Okay, I got a rejection E mail yesterday

"
Dear Chris,

Thanks so much for considering Dinosaur Bees as a potential home for "A Journey Through the Fourth Wall". Though we enjoyed it, we do not think it's quite the right fit right now. We wish you the best of luck in placing it elsewhere.

Sincerely,
Dinosaur Bees"

I don't even know how to take that. They liked it, but..? I have came to the conclusion, I am never going to be a writer. This is fine. I'll keep writing. I just won't get to fufill my dreams of being snooty in an interview or selling out for millions of dollars when it comes to turning a book of mine into a movie. I guess I will get to keep writing what I want regardless of the trends in pop culture. Anyways just something that has been going on in my head.

A new direction

Okay so I notice my blog was becoming too boring (to me) and predictable. I want it to just be random and not planned out like I schedule something for every day of the week, so i am sort of starting all over. I am just going to post what I am feeling that day. It maybe about stuff I seen on the new, read, watched, work, or stuff on my mind. I will praise, criticize, and ask questions. Well here I go (tomorrow I am done for today)

You stay on your side. I'll stay on my side :p

This is one of the classic plots of sitcoms that have two polar opposite characters sharing a living space. it always leads to lots of fun when one person can't get to the bathroom, and the other can't get to the fridge.

On this date (8/13) in 1961 a city did this. Berlin (it's in Germany) was half communist (it was owned by the USSR) and half capitalist. All of the people who could were trying to get over to the capitalist side. This prompted the Russians to build a wall separating the two halves. I am not sure who got blocked off from the bathroom though.

Of course the wall has been torn down now, and Germany is completely its own country. This doesn't take away the wonderful moments and things the wall taught us. Who can forget United
States former president Regan shouting "Tear down this Wall," or how David Hasselhoff (sp?) singing his song about looking for freedom. (This also taught us that at least a portion of the German population has horrible taste in music)

A super long (for me) post

Well, I haven't blogged for a few days, so I thought it would be fun to make a blog that contains all the things I've missed.

The first thing I missed was what am I writing this week. I am working on my short story about a guy that just lost his wife, my novella about a group that collects people to display as art, and my fantasy dragon novel.

Finally, what I finished the book REDEMPTION IN

Don't worry, here is my cool web thing. Pixton comics. The really artistically creative of you out there will have a lot of fun with this one.

Finally I finished the fantasy novel Redemption in Indigo this last week. It is a story where things that humans cannot control are controlled by magical creatures. The power of chaos is given to a woman, and its original owner wants it back. The story has wonderful diverse characters and a nice storytelling style from the narrator. If you want something original check it out.

What makes Shakespeare great

These are some things I think make shakespeare great.
1. Variety. He could write in any genre of his time at an excellent level. Think of the most popular Shakespeare plays or your favorites. Now try to think of another writer with that range of ability.

The next reason next week

We got it

The garlic bread plant, I work, has been producing faster than it's selling. This is pretty common during the summer, but, with the economy being a little down, this year is a little worse than usual. Therefore, my bosses and union reps have agreed to cut the hours of the hourly workers to 32 per week for about a month. This is not too bad. I know there are a lot of people that have it much worse. The thing that gets me is the fine people that decided this are sacrificing nothing. Yes, that seems fair to me.

Anne Frank Captured

On this August 4th, 1944 Anne Frank and her family were captured after living in hiding for about two years from the nazis. Anne and her family with the help of several local church people, lived in a small warehouse, along with another Jewish family, and a single man. Although Anne and her family were caught and eventually perished in nazi death camps, a diary that Anne had started on her 13th birthday was not discovered and survived to be an enduring symbol of literature and the human spirit of little girl during a pretty horrific era. If you have never read the diary of Anne Frank, I strongly recommend you do.

What I'm writing this week

This week, I'm only working on two stories. The first one is the broken marriage story. I already see I have to go back and fill in a lot to complete the story. The second story is my suspense thriller. I'm still trying to raise the stakes after making it look like things had been settled. I'm also trying to write a character bordering on panic.
I did finish my story for the contest. Earthbound. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Shakespeare Challenge

For the next several months, I'm going to be participating in a Shakespeare challenge. Every Tuesday ill try to write a blog related to something Shakespeare. I plan to share my thoughts in his works, his influence, why he is hated, and why he is arguably the greatest writer of all time. I think this challenge is going to be quite fun. A special thanks goes to Pixie for the idea. If you like books, especially YA fantasy, follow her blog.

It's about damn time

It seems an agreement was reached to raise the debt ceiling. i heard a funny line from the Onion News Network the other day. "A team of 8th grade civic teachers have been dispatched to Washington to explain how government is supposed to work." I thought that was a great statement to sum up how things are going.

Quick and a lot more fun than you might think

I'm moving my weekly blog post where I share something I find interesting to Saturday, so I can try a Shakespeare challenge on Tuesdays
This week I want to share my new found love for the grammar girl and her quick and dirty tips for better writing. I have become a regular fan of the podcast, and if you are a person who wants to improve their grammar or is interested in anything to do with the linguistics of English including the history of some of the more obscure rules. I strongly suggest you check out the web site.

Audio Books

I've recently taken a liking to audio books while I walk. I like to mix a variety of music, podcasts, and the audiobooks. With the audio books, I have lately beenn be coming acquainted or reacquainted with some of the classics of English literature. Just finished listening to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Next on my list is Great Expectations. I've also listened to Roseanne Cash's memoirs recently. If you want to listen to or read about an interesting, deep, and thoughtful woman then check that out. She recorded the audio book and you could hear the various emotions as she told the stories of her life.

14th amendment

On this date in 1868 the 14th amendment was officially ratified and added to the U.S. Constitution. The 14th amendment gave African Americans all the rights of citizenship It had actually been passed in Congress two years earlier, but had to be passed in at least 3/4ths of the state before it was ratified. Of course it can be argued it was over a hundred years before it was implemented.

What I'm writing this week

I'm working on three stories this week. The first one is a science fiction short for a contest. Lately, I've been trying to write character driven science fiction stories with the science parts in the background. This story fits with that theme. I need to be finished by this weekend.
The second story is a piece of literary fiction centering around the sudden end of a long term relationship. I'm trying to fit in sorrow, anger, lying to yourself, and a bit of irrational behavior.
The third and final thing is the second part of a thriller novelette The Collector. It's time to raise the stakes in that story.

orphans

Yes, I hate orphans. No, I do not hate orphans. I am just getting sick and tired of them being in stories. I recently read a book called Extraordinary. It was a fairy book and to be honest not that great, but I want to champion it because the main character is not an orphan or being raised by somebody other than her parents. That is one of the things I hate about genre fiction, once something works. Everybody and their mother has to try to write a book with it. Oh well. I had actually planned on going off on some political rant, but I do not have the energy.

A Bridge to the Starry Skies

A Bridge to the Starry Skies is a romantic comedy anime about a boy who and his little brother who are sent to a small mountain town to live. On the way to the town the brothers get momentarily side tracked, and the older one ends up encountering and accidentaly kissing a girl. The girl of course ends up living in the town and going to the boy's new school. This anime is pretty typical of its type. There are lots of colorful melodramatic supporting characters, big breast, and short skirts. The plots and sub plots never really drew me, but the art and over all abiance of the show is quite nice.

Battle of Bull Run

Today is the anniversary of The Battle of Bull Run.
In the 1860s. The United States fought a war between itself called the Civil War. It is by far the deadliest war in history for Americans. Hundreds of thousands of lives were lost. Cities were burned to the ground. The culural impact of this war and why it was fought is still felt today.
It was supposed to be over quick. On Jul. 21, 1861. The people of the union side were wondering why the war had not been won. The darn thing been declared for a few months by then. so they demanded the south be marched upon and conqured. This seemed like a fine idea. The union gathered 30 something thousand of the finest untrained soldiers they had and attacked. A crowd of onlookers actually gathered to watch. (Back then war was still a popular spectator sport.) The south was out numbered by a few thousand, but they had training. This combined with new advances in weapon technology for the time resulted in a very bloody battle. Several thousand lost their lives. A strong omen for what was to come.

What I am writing this week

I thought I would bore people with what I am writing in a week on Wednesdays.. I am working on a sci fi short story for a contest, a bit of literary fiction, and the next chapter in my dragon story.

The sci fi story is my main focus cause there is a dead line. I have to use pictures and what not. It is cool though. I think I have a pretty good idea.
The literary fiction is something I am not totally sure where I am going. I do know that I need to go back and add somethings. I am trying to avoid making this thing anything genre related and just write about life, but I want there to be a connection to some higher concept.

I have finished the first draft of the dragon chapter. I just need to add more details. I skipped them on purpose on the first write because I wanted to focus on the action of the chapter. This chapter is the first time that I add a little bit of detail in to what the dragons look like. Some of my readers don't like that, but I have my reasons for waiting.

Well that is what I am working on this week.

Prepare

Prepare for your jaw to hit the floor if you havent seen this. Watch "Butterfly Lovers" on YouTube

Casey Anthony

I know I'm a little late to the party here, but I just started this blog. Let us hope and pray that my post here signals the end of Casey Anthony's fifteen minutes of fame.
The thing that bothered me most was the spectacle the trial became. The crowds rushing to get in the court room, the anthemic rock music played as the lawyers and other trial participants took their seats, etc were all just over the top. I especially found the smoke machines and roaming spotlights in bad taste. (A few of the previous statements may have been slightly exaggerated.)

Now we come to now. The trial decided. The outcries outcries, and what does the media do while speaking out against the evils of cashing in on the death of a small child? They follow miss Anthony everywhere and give her wall to wall coverage. Disgusting! But still not as bad as constantly posting cute pictures of that little girl all over the TV screen.

There, I got that out.

Wilson

Wilson by Daniel Clowes is the graphic story of a self centered loser with absolutely no filter. The story told through related comic strips (each page contains its own punchline) follows Wilson as he searches for a lost love, a lost daughter, and some sort of meaning and happiness.
The best thing about this book is Wilson. I never knew what he was going to say, and some of the things said were laugh out loud funny. The most amazing thing about Wilson is, despite the character's crass attitude, he still comes across as likable. A true accomplishment by the author.

The art alternated between a realistic style and a more cartoonish style that I thought highlighted the comic strip feel of each page.

The only thing I didn't like is a part of me thought the author played it a little safe. While Wilson never played it safe, he basically never interacted with anyone to make him truly politically incorrect.

That said Wilson is original, funny, and in its own way thought provoking. Check it out.
